In <a href=\"https:\/\/youtu.be\/69t2Esk8ayc\">a video<\/a> put out by the ADA president, Dr. Daniel J Klemmendson says the reason for this is \u201cbecause of dentistry\u2019s proven ability to practice safely through this pandemic.\u201d<\/p>\n<p>In a <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/news\/newsreleases\/national\/06102021\">National News Release<\/a> published on June 10<sup>th<\/sup>, 2021, the Occupational Safety and Health Administration announced it will issue an ETS \u201cto protect healthcare workers from contracting coronavirus.\u201d A week later they filed it with the Office of the Federal Register and\u00a0 the ETS became effective when it was published on June 21<sup>st<\/sup>. Please go and read all of the components of the <a href=\"https:\/\/www.osha.gov\/coronavirus\/ets\">COVID-19 Healthcare ETS<\/a> for yourself to determine the best course of action for you and your client\u2019s business.<\/p>\n<p>According to the ADA President, this new standard \u201crequires substantial added infection controls in settings like hospitals and nursing homes.\u201d However, since dentists and dental hygienists \u201ctook [the <a href=\"https:\/\/pages.ada.org\/return-to-work-toolkit-american-dental-association\">ADA\u2019s interim guidance<\/a>] to heart,\u201d their infection rates were \u201cfar lower than other health care professionals.\u201d Dr. Kelmmedson says that this data was provided to OSHA and White House officials, and they listened. That\u2019s why dental practices \u201ccan go on providing excellent care to your patients without worrying that additional federal regulations will be burdensome to your practice.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><iframe loading=\"lazy\" title=\"YouTube video player\" src=\"https:\/\/www.youtube.com\/embed\/69t2Esk8ayc\" width=\"560\" height=\"315\" frameborder=\"0\" allowfullscreen=\"allowfullscreen\"><\/iframe><\/p>\n<p>While communicating the great news that dentistry is largely exempt from OSHA\u2019s new ETS, the ADA President did note that there are &#8220;provisions of the new regulation that [do] affect dental practices,\u201d like continuing to screen patients before appointments. He also claims that, \u201cin order to be exempt\u201d you should be able to demonstrate that \u201cyou are doing your best to screen out known or suspected COVID positive patients.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>What do you think?
