The piece discusses some of the more common vulnerabilities within your computer network and how to help keep your data from unwanted intruders.<\/p>\n<h5>FROM LMTMAG.COM<\/h5>\n<blockquote><p>It was like something out of an episode of\u00a0<em>24<\/em>: Jim Thacker, CFO, Utah Valley Dental Lab (UVDL), walked into the Provo, UT, lab one Monday morning last October and found nearly every computer locked with a chilling message on the screen: \u201cAll of your data is encrypted. Your files are safe and will be returned to you after you pay us ransom.\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-full wp-image-1029 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/wp.hashe.com\/atlantabasedsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/thumb.jpeg\" alt=\"\" width=\"200\" height=\"200\" srcset=\"https:\/\/wp.hashe.com\/atlantabasedsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/thumb.jpeg 200w, https:\/\/wp.hashe.com\/atlantabasedsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/thumb-150x150.jpeg 150w, https:\/\/wp.hashe.com\/atlantabasedsystems\/wp-content\/uploads\/2021\/10\/thumb-100x100.jpeg 100w\" sizes=\"auto, (max-width: 200px) 100vw, 200px\" \/>Fortuitously, UVDL had recently purchased a cyber insurance policy from CFC Underwriting, a U.K. company that specializes in cyber incident response, recovery and liability. CFC\u2019s team took over as soon as Thacker discovered the attack. It negotiated with the hackers, covered the ransom fee and helped\u2014with the assistance of the lab\u2019s IT company\u2014get the company back up and running in a week and a half.<\/p>\n<p>\u201cIt was certainly the most mentally challenging crisis we\u2019ve faced, like the stress of nine months of the pandemic crammed into eight days.
